Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country steeped in tradition and brimming with possibilities. While Christianity has been in Thailand for over 100 years, less than 5% of the population is estimated to be followers of Jesus. Yet, many believe Thailand to be on the verge of the first Christian revival in that nation’s history.

In 2009, upon the request of Free Methodist Mission Thailand, WBC sent a staff member to Thailand in order to assess how we could support their ministry through Christian Camping. General teaching on the ministry and value of Christian Camping was provided to the church leadership of Mission Thailand. The Thai church also has a camp property called Zion Land. WBC has provided a basic site plan recommendation and offered general camp ministry training to Thai leaders.

WBC’s goal is to strengthen Christian leadership and discipleship through Christian Camping programs. In 2012, a team will travel to Thailand in order to conduct a Family Camp for the Mission Thailand churches. In addition to providing Biblical instruction for all ages, our goals include casting a vision for how Christian Camping can provide a transformational experience for all ages. Our hope is to see Thai leaders embrace Camping as a ministry tool and our work with them will be to develop their capacity in programming and outdoor ministry. In addition to the Family Camp, the team will also visit important cultural sites in the Bangkok area in order to better understand the broader Thai culture. Three days will also be invested in volunteering with YWAM in the city of Pattaya southeast of Bangkok. YWAM conducts both slum ministry and ministry to women and girls in the burgeoning sex trade of that city. Our work with them will broaden our exposure to God’s work in Thailand and form broader ministry partnerships.
